…the devil’s in the details.
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a house tour of sorts. but it’s a daunting task. and things are constantly growing, changing, evolving. so instead i’ll do a series of photos, a collection of details, fragments of the things that make me happy, the place we call home, our sanctuary of chaos. the new, the old, the broken, the vintage…the handmade, the ugly, the faded, the beautiful…all of it. all the pieces of our pretty little puzzle.

The unveiling of my first ReStyle: Coffee filter flowaz
They wind all the way up the staircase…hundreds of flowers and hundreds of thumbtacks.
They’re super easy. And basically free.

*****************
Step 1: gently crumple your coffee filters
Step 2: thumbtack to wall
Step 3: repeat. try cutting some filters smaller, layering filters and adding more than 1 thumbtack in some flowers for more visual appeal.
Step 4: fill in any empty spots with curving lines of thumbtacks.
Tip: after every flower, step back to get the whole picture. make the arrangement taper of at the end. have a couple of off-shoots so that it isn’t a straight line. admire your handiwork. show it off religiously.

winter colours week 2011
silver family heirloom. it wasn’t originally silver…but the spray paint was. the next family heirloom might be getting leopard spots. but for now it lives happily in the corner keeping our vintage bar and record player company. it’s a classy little room.

it’s winter colours week at poppytalk.
winter white, 2 days late. tomorrow is silver. on-time silver.
1. pretty little birdies 2. old piano keys, furry throw 3. wine bottle vase 4. coffee filter artwork 5. vintage lace 6. crocheted blanket 7. soft white couch and soft white blanket.

I painted B a shower curtain for his bathroom – freehand.
It’s always helpful to remind yourself that an octopus only has eight tentacles before you start painting. I didn’t. And my octopus has 11 tentacles. B can’t count yet so it’s okay.
bonding.

Plans for our bedroom, 5 year old style. Click on it – it gets bigger.
1. Paint gray above the chair rail and maybe the ceiling. Add white trim boxes.
2. Toss the nasty fan and replace with a vintage-y chandelier – ideally something sparkly.
3. Finally get a a big full length mirror.
4. Get an oscillating floor fan…they make the best falling-asleep noises.
5. Collapsable storage ottoman for random bedroom crap. And so I can sit on it in front of the big mirror and do my makeup instead of cramming myself up onto the itty bitty bathroom counter.
6. Pretty purple pleated comforter
7. Lamp with a red shade. Ambiance.
8. Orange and striped and sequined pillows plus a maybe a furry one and a fur blanket.
9. Grey sequined fabric for a giant curtain hung from the ceiling to separate Alex’s office space.
10. Stain my roll top desk really dark brown and paint hardware
11. Orchids and peacock feathers galore. And candles and incense too.
And maybe one day we’ll get a rid of the gross carpet. If not, that’s fine. I’ve gotten really good at blocking it out.

Things I’ve taught myself to do this year: Sew (kind of), paper mache, use power tools…
…and hang wallpaper.
Our kitchen needed a backsplash.
Paintable wallpaper. Painted purple. I’m actually kind of shocked Alex went for this.
he trusts me
and he loves our purple kitchen
I really think it enhances the brass knuckles
It’s Stella’s favorite color.
