I was a ballerina.
Beloved was a leprechaun.
We went to a Halloween Party.
We made a new friend.
He taught Alex how to smoke a tobacco pipe.
He was dressed like a maid and he kept losing his boobs.
I inadvertently saw his British flag thong more than once.
He had lots of tattoos and owned a tattoo shop.
His fiance was Dorothy and he adored her.
He really liked my jello shots.
He told me how awesome it was that I was pregnant and at a Halloween party.
He got in trouble because of me…
…but it was an accident.
I didn’t mean to.
He died that night.
He was hit by a car trying to save his fiancé’s puppy.
It’s funny how someone you hardly know can make such an impact on your mind. They get inside your memories and they take them as their own. No matter how the night would have ended, wether he would have lived or died, wether I ever saw him again or not, I would have remembered him, the friend who made me laugh all night that one Halloween. He defined what otherwise would have been just another night of meeting too many new people, shaking too many hands, and making too much small talk before I headed home to crawl into bed wearing Beloved’s sweatpants.

Our mom was the best at Halloween…most Holidays, really. Everything went away and the mania gave way to magic and she created this perfect world for us, however short lived it might have been. I think in her mind she was purging herself of the guilt she carried in her heart when she spun her fairy tales for us…and when the day had passed her sins were forgotten but the fairy tale lingered on, flickering lights among the shadows.

There is something in October

Sets the gypsy blood astir

We must rise and follow her

When from every hill of flame

She calls and calls each vagabond by name

Michi I miss you so much.

Over the last month…

- A turtle came to visit. But I wasn’t allowed to touch it.
- Dog Fest 2010 was better than last year. People kept bringing their puppies to see me. Best 4 hours ever.
- Alex lost his wedding ring. I don’t know why anyone thought I was going to freak out. It’s just a ring. And now he’s going to get one tattooed on. Until then I’ve been drawing it on with a sharpie.
- Stella has eaten two mouse traps. whole. she’s…a moron.
- I decorated for Halloween. There are pumpkins everywhere.
- Alex joined a softball league…which led to the revelation that there is a swinger’s neighborhood in Fishhawk. A dead snake hung from the tree next to me during his game.
- Alex got me a video camera. I’m going to make some really dumb videos.
- We snuggled and watched the last season of Lost.
- We’ve already planned 3 vacations for next year. Brigsby is going to be the most exciting baby on the block.
- I inherited and painted some bookcases….free bookcases.
- I painted our grandmother clock silver.
- We picked up a new coffee table…one where we can hide things from Stella so she doesnt eat them.
- JSCAB productions successfully pulled off it’s first event for Superpop’s birthday. We sat in the car and tried to draw mustaches on babies, puppies, and pineapples.

Play by play of the last week or so:

October 30th: Kelsey, Jt, Amanda, Caden, Madre, and Padre all came over and we made a massively creative dinner and Halloween cupcakes and strawberry margaritas. Also, I was sick.

October 31st: Woke up with a fever and by unanimous decision was coerced into a 3 mile walk…with Stella. Felt even worse so Husband made me lay down and made me drink massive amounts of gatorade and he made me chicken noodle soup. And we watched movies and I wasn’t as miserable as I should have been. I canceled Halloween and stuck the candy outside. We briefly considered stealing everyone else’s candy…but it didn’t happen.
Sunday I was sick and Husband laughed a lot. Monday was Monday, but Husband was so perfect it made my head spin. And I bought an antique coat rack and found a little elephant table on the side of the road. Tuesday I got a ton of projects done.

Closet is teal and smells like Febreeze Moroccan Bazaar. And I painted the dumpster dresser and it is perfect. The pictures all suck because my good camera is in Virginia being fixed.

The guitar wall is now a giant chalkboard for Husband to leave me love notes on.

This is the coat rack when it was ugly. Now it’s shiny.

This is Zeva. Sheehan brought her over and she’s a 5 month old polar bear. I love her.

And then in the midst of all this I tweaked my hair. It’s got some blonde in it so the ladies at Sweetbay will finally stop harassing me when they see my license.
And most importantly, Stella’s lost her mind. But I love her anyway.

Friday shined under an incandescent sun.

I scared Husband with these and Roger lied at my feet while I spun around the kitchen in a maelstrom of flour and sugar.

The boys came and filled our house with laughter and guitar and singing and yelling and for three days our house was full and bursting at the seams. They took pictures and loved on the pups and helped me clean and garden and we lounged with the windows open and napped on the floor in easy contentment.

On Saturday we celebrated and saw the baby and unveiled the Pumpkin Cake

We watched football and sang happy birthday and were mesmerized by little Logan

Saturday night was epic. We sat in a sea of swirling napkins drinking this and that at Acropolis and I swayed around in sky high heels and the boys made me laugh until I couldn’t stand it and we danced and reeled about in a torrent of chaos and oblivion and the night was ours.

And then early Sunday morning we got a phone call…the kind of call you never want to receive.
RIP Josh and Jonathan.
I don’t know what else to say.

We ventured out to the Fishhawk Pumpkin Fest last night. Children screamed and pushed and ran and there wasn’t any room to move. Everyone was sweaty and shouting and sticky and if it wasn’t for the wall of pumpkins, it wouldn’t have been worth it. There wasn’t enough beer in the world to prepare for it.

Husband had an anxiety attack

I just wanted to look at the pumpkins

Padre wanted to throw them all on the ground

And I stopped in the middle of an intersection to look at the sunset.
And then we went to dinner at a weird little restaurant and questioned its legitimacy.
I was fast asleep by 9:00.

Most recently in the House of Dunn, we’ve finished painting the diamonds in the dining room (finally) and I didn’t use a single piece of painter’s tape.

They’re just so slightly off so that they look a little topsy turvy…which is perfect, because I’m channeling an Alice in Wonderland/Gypsy Caravan kind of thing.
And this very morning I sat down and made a speaker box for the record player…with a little help from husband since the assembly part was giving me serious issues.
before
after
And we decorated for Halloween because everyone knows how seriously I take being festive.

the one in the middle is my favorite…it even earned a fist bump from Husband

blood. real blood. I want to make kids cry.
