for just a few minutes on a january tuesday, the three of you sat in the grass in your hats from miss laura lou. fingers to faces, foreheads to foreheads, eyes to camera, leaves to mouths, and, finally, hats to grass. and while we sat there and watched you, I sang you smashing pumpkins in my head and watched the shadows move across the wall.
